About Andrea

Andrea was born in Hermitage, a little fishing village on the south coast of Newfoundland, Canada. She grew up loving the outdoors and would spend endless hours exploring the woods or playing on the shore. She enjoyed trout fishing and canoeing with her father, and cod jigging in the bay with her grandfather.

Andrea also liked to tap into her creative side. Her mother and grandmother taught her how to knit, sew, and embroider earlier than she can remember.

In her mid-twenties, Andrea moved to Alberta, married a “farmer named John”, became a teacher, and raised a family.

These days, you will find her sitting on the steps of the farmhouse feeding peanuts to “wild” squirrels and gophers, wandering through the woods, or sitting with a friend
as she knits a pair of socks.

Andrea has a childlike faith in Jesus Christ and encourages everyone to “Get into the Word until the Word gets into you”.

Her stories reflect her love of God, her relationships with others, and the lessons she has learned along the way.

An Interview With Andrea

  • Andrea laughs, “I don’t have any spare time! If I’m awake, I’m doing something”.

  • “Never! I spend hours listening to Biblical Scholars like Chuck Missler, Ken Johnson and others — they make great company.

  • Champion City Church in Edmonton, Alberta. You’re welcome to join me at www.championcitychurch.com.

  • The Bible, 100%.

  • Yes, lots of people! My husband, John, helped me cut the wood and build things. My friend Sherry suggested the “felting” idea and hiding Poppy (the ladybug). Murray fixed, updated, and set up my computer. Tamara, Frances, John, and Murray proofread the story. Krista, Arlie, and Sherry painted little pictures to add to the sets. Tamara bought me the Pastor’s Bible. Dawn, my graphic designer, is amazing; she arranged my photos and formatted the story and Bible verses into what you see here.

  • I felt inspired… it’s all about spreading God’s Word and His Love.

  • Yes! Poking myself with the felting needle.

  • I don’t like picking berries very much… but I love to eat them.

  • I have a few: Amazing Grace, by Chris Tomlin; Let Us Be One, by Arlie Riendeau; Jesus, Friend of Sinners, by Casting Crowns; She Wants to Be a Painter, by Aimee Carty; and One Day You Will Fly Too, by Aimee Carty.

  • I have no idea I have 10 so far, but my ideas are endless.

  • It’s a mix of memories and imagination.

  • I love them! We didn’t have skunks, porcupines, gophers, ground squirrels, groundhogs, raccoons, and several other rodents in Newfoundland, where I grew up, but we have lots here in Alberta. I make friends with them on our farm and feed them seeds and peanuts from my hand.

  • Yes! The more I do, the better I get at making things. I’d love to go back and redo some stuff but I’d never get ahead if I did that.

  • Faith, Family and Friends.

  • If you cannot be kind, be quiet.

  • In the bow of a boat in Hermitage Bay. A gentle breeze of saltwater air, the sun reflecting on the water, seagulls flying overhead… that for me is heaven on earth.

  • I want them to feel inspired to really live their lives—to try new things, see new places, play with their friends, use their imaginations, learn about God and His creation, be creative, laugh, have fun, and be kids.

  • Kind of… let’s put it this way… If I had my time back, I would have slowed down, put away my phone and spent more time doing things that I write about in my books.

  • Life is precious. Each day is a gift you only get to open once, so savour as many moments as you can.
